Glossary

FarmIQ tries to use plain English whenever possible. However, there are some terms that have a specific meaning in FarmIQ .

This list defines some of these terms as they are used in FarmIQ .

Term Definition
Account menu

The menu where you manage your FarmIQ account and log out, switch between farms and organisations, and refresh the data FarmIQ uses to run on your computer.

The Account menu is at the top right of the Navigation bar. It has downward arrow beside the name of your current location in FarmIQ – the farm name, organisation name or, in Your FarmIQ, your name.

Activity A work event recorded in the System, such as weighing stock or applying fertiliser. Activities are displayed in the Farm Diary.
Age monthsHow many months old the animals are, based on their birth date, not calendar months.
AHB number Animal Health Board number – a 7 digit herd number.
Animal type The animal species.
Attachments Files, including documents, videos, spreadsheets and images, attached to an event when it is recorded. Attachments are stored in the Library under File library.
Birth monthThe calendar month in which an animal was born.
Birth rank Classification of an animal born as a single, twin or triplet. 
Balance date When feed demand equals feed supply at the end of calving.
Blocks A group of paddocks. They need not be adjacent.
Class An animal’s sex and age.
Clean up EID tags Identify EID tags that are no longer on your farm and remove them.
Cultivatable area Used by the System to calculate seed requirements when you enter a cropping event.
Data feed Direct feed of information to or from another service provider.
Device An appliance that can record, store and export EID files. Indicator, wand.
Draft Animals are drafted from mob to mob. The mob they are drafted to can be an existing mob or a new mob.
Drafting device An indicator or wand that has drafting capability.
Effective area Used by the System to calculate fertiliser spread when you record a fertiliser event.
EID Electronic identification
Event A work activity recorded in the System, such as weighing stock or applying fertiliser. Events are displayed as activities in the Farm Diary.
Event category A category that you might want to associate with a weight or condition score, for example, purchase or mating.
Export Create a copy of the file or report outside of the FarmIQ. You can save the file or send it to people who do not have access to FarmIQ.
File A session file generated from a weigh scale for use in events. Files, including documents, videos, spreadsheets and images, attached to an event when it is recorded. Attachments are stored in the Library under File library.
File date The date the file was created.
General animal activity Any animal event or activity that cannot be recorded using another FarmIQ animal event or activity.
General land activity Any land event or activity that cannot be recorded using another FarmIQ animal event or activity.
Heat map The farm map where the colour of a paddock indicates the data range that applies to it. The legend shows the data range for each colour.
Indicator A device that can record, store and export EID files.
Land schedule A report that shows planned chemical, fertiliser and cropping activities from a specified start date.
LIC number Livestock Improvement Company - a 3 or 4 letter participation code.
Life data Animal descriptors that do not usually change during the animal’s life such as breed, sex and birth rank.
Link, linked An EID tag is linked to a mob if the System knows which mob the tagged animal is in.  The Stock list shows which tags are linked to a mob.
If the System loses track of which mob a specific tagged animal is in, the tags are dropped, ie., they are no longer linked to a mob.
Users can link EIDs to a mob using a file.
Mob Animals grouped together for the purposes of recording activities in FarmIQ.
Move Animals are moved from paddock to paddock or between Unassigned stock and paddocks. 

Moves are not recorded in individual Animal history.

Navigation bar The bar at the top of the FarmIQ window with menu headings and links to system features and tools.
Overlap threshold On the Liveweight profile graph, the overlap threshold is the minimum percentage of animals that must be in consecutive weighings for FarmIQ to show a connecting line. The System identifies the animals by EID. 
Record When you enter and save an activity or event.
Registered / Registration When animal traits are linked to an EID tag.
Revenue group Classifies the financial purpose for which an animal is held.
Shapefiles / map files

Shapefiles are used to draw the farm on the map.

Shapefiles (.SHP) are a data storage format for storing the geometric location, shape and attributes of geographic features. Shapefiles are used with a set of related files (.PRJ, .SHX, .DBF) to describe the features, text, etc.

When you add a shapefile, the map viewer converts it to a format that can be quickly read and displayed.

Stock class An animal’s sex and age.
Stock count Number of animals, both owned and grazing, on the farm on a specified date.
Stock traits All animal descriptors including age, sex, breed, birth rank, weight, scanning result and revenue group.
Stock type The stock species.
Tagged In FarmIQ a tagged animal is one that has an EID tag.
Task category / Task categories The name of a group of tasks.
Third party A person who is given access to the FarmIQ  system of a farm but who is not farm staff. They can have access to more than one farm. 
Timesheet administrator The person on the farm who is responsible for setting up and managing timesheets.
Trait changed in / out If the traits of animals on the farm are changed, the changes are recorded in the Stock rec as Trait changed in / out.
Traits All animal descriptors including age, gender, breed, birth rank, weight, scanning result and revenue group.
Transferred in / out When animals are transferred between farms in an organisation, the animal movements are recorded in the Stock reconciliation as Transferred in / out.
Trend line The best-fit straight line for the data on a graph. It is a summary of the trend in the data over time.
Unassigned stock Stock that is recorded in FarmIQ but not assigned to a paddock. You can choose Unassigned stock instead of a paddock when you add or move stock. See Unassigned stock for more information.
VID Visual identification. Also referred to as a visual ID.
Wand A hand held device that can record, store and export EID files.
Weighted average date for weighings in a monthThe date calculated by multiplying the date for each weighing event by the number of animals in that event, adding them together and then dividing by the total number of animals in all weighings.
Weighted average weightThe average weight calculated by multiplying the average weight for each weighing event by the number of animals in that event, adding them together and then dividing by the total number of animals in all weighings.
Year born The financial year in which the animal was born.
