Record weights

You can record weights for:

  • owned animals on your farm or grazing off
  • animals grazing on your farm.

If you are maintaining a stock reconciliation in FarmIQ, record weights using an EID file or by tally.
If you are not maintaining a stock reconciliation in FarmIQ, record weights by describing stock

You can use a weight file, without EIDs, when recording weights by tally or by describing stock.

To record weights:

 using an EID file  click here
  using an EID file:  
  1. On the Navigation bar, click Stock > Weights > Record weights.
  2. If the System asks if you have a weight file, click Yes. Otherwise, click Add tags.
  • Select the file from the computer or tag library.
  1. If the System shows that there are unregistered tags or errors on the file, you must deal with them before continuing.

  2. Check that the Weighing date, Time of day and mobs are correct. If not, change them.
  • To check mob details, click the expansion arrow to the left of the mob name.
  1. If you know how long the animals were off pasture before weighing, enter the hours into Time off pasture.
  2. Select Event category.
  • Recording Event category is optional but must be entered if you want to use these weights in reproduction reports or Year on year liveweight and Weight target reports by Event category.
  1. You can record additional Notes or upload Attachments.

  2. Click Save.

    • The System confirms that the activity has been saved.

  by tally, without a file:
  1. On the Navigation bar, click Stock > Weights > Record weights.
  • If the System asks if you have a file or visual ID, click No.
  1. Select the stock that was weighed:
  • Select the mobpaddock or grazier.
    • You can select multiple mobs or paddocks. 
    • To check the details of each mob click the expansion arrow to the left of the mob name.
  • Check or enter the tally of weighed animals against each mob or stock class in the Select column.
  1. Enter the Weighing details:

    • Select input method
      If you have... select...
      one stock class
      Sample weight or
      Average weight
      more than one stock class
      - Sample weight (by trait),
           - Each trait is shown on a different tab
      - Sample weight (overall) or
      - Average weight
    • Enter weights
      To enter
      Sample weights
      For each trait or for the animals overall:
      either:   
      • select a Weight range and Weight increments from the dropdown menu
      or   
      • select Custom from the Weight range dropdown menu then enter the Min and Max weights and select Weight increments.

      Enter the number of animals in each weight increment in the table provided.    
      To enter
      Average weights

      If there is 1 mob or stock class  
      Enter Animal average or Total weight for total tally. 
      If there is more than 1 stock class
      either:   
      • select Overall Weight and enter Animal average or Total weight
      or   
      • select Weights by trait and enter Animal average or Total weight for each stock trait. 
    • Time off pasture 
      If you know how long the animals were off pasture before weighing, enter the hours.
    • Select the Event category
      You must select the Event category if you want to use these weights in Reproduction reports or Year on year liveweight and Weight target reports by Event category. 
  1. If you know how long the animals were off pasture before weighing, enter the hours into Time off pasture.
  2. Enter Event category.
  • Recording an Event category is optional but must be entered if you want to use these weights in reproduction reports or Year on year liveweight and Weight target reports by Event category.
  1. You can record additional Notes or upload Attachments.

  2. Click Save.

    • The System confirms that the activity has been saved.

  by tally, using a weight file:            
  1. On the Navigation bar, click Stock > Weights > Record weights.
  2. If the System asks if you have a weight file, click Yes. Otherwise, click Add tags.
  • Select the file from the computer or tag library.
  1. If the System shows that there are unregistered tags or errors on the file, you must deal with them before continuing.

  2. Check that the Weighing date and Time of day are correct. If not, change them.
  3. Select a mob or Select multiple mobs.
  • To check mob details, click the expansion arrow to the left of the mob name.
  • You can select the correct tally for each mob or stock class.
  1. If you know how long the animals were off pasture before weighing, enter the hours into Time off pasture.
  2. Select Event category.
  • Recording Event category is optional but must be entered if you want to use these weights in reproduction reports or Year on year liveweight and Weight target reports by Event category.
  1. You can record additional Notes or upload Attachments.

  2. Click Save.

    • The System confirms that the activity has been saved.
 by describing stock, without a file:
  1. On the Navigation bar, click Stock > Weights > Record weights.
  2. Enter the Weighing date.
  3. Select the Animal Type.
  4. Describe the animals.
    If you...
    then...
    have added this stock class and breed as a favourite
    or 
    described this stock class and breed in FarmIQ before.
    select Add favourites 


    • To help identify the correct animals you can Show mob.

    • Select the checkbox for the Stock classBreed, Mob and Revenue group combination required.

    • Click OK. 
      If your Favourite does not include a mob, you can select or create a mob for the animals in this activity.
    have not added or used this stock class and breed in FarmIQ  before
    or 
    don't want to use favourites.
    click Add more animals 
     
    and use the dropdown boxes to select:
    • Stock class as at the date of the event
    • Breed. If you can't see the breed, click the plus sign.

      See Select a breed.
    • Mob or you can create a mob.
    • Revenue groups, if they are turned on.
  5. To add more animals, click Add favourite or Add more animals.
  6. Enter the tallies.
  1. Enter the Weighing details:

    or 
    described this stock class and breed in FarmIQ before.
    select Add favourites

  1. Complete the remaining fields:

    • Fields with an * are required. Other fields are optional.
    • You can record additional Notes or upload Attachments
  2. Click Save.

    • The System confirms that the activity has been saved.
